Make These Rose Neapolitan Spritz Cookies For Your Valentine

child and mom baking cookies

Roses are a fine way to show some affection on Valentine’s Day, while sweets get the message across just as well. This year, you can combine the two with these rose-shaped Neapolitan cookies!

Ingredients

While some ingredients will vary from one flavor to the next, you’ll need these essentials to make all the spritz cookies:

  • 1 cup room temperature butter
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large room temperature egg
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ¼ teaspoon almond extract
  • 2 ¼ cups all-purpose flour
  • ½ teaspoon salt

Each of the three flavors in this cookie trio will involve their own adjustments to the standard spritz cookie recipe. For the strawberry cookies, you’ll also need ¼ teaspoon of strawberry extract, plus pink gel food coloring. The chocolate spritz cookies will need ¼ cup of cocoa instead of the flour, and you can also omit the almond extract. In the marshmallow buttercream cookies, you’ll need about two sticks of softened butter, four cups of confectioner’s sugar, twice as much almond extract as in the regular spritz recipe, plus 13 ounces of marshmallow crème.

Directions

To get started, pre-heat your oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit. In a bowl, mix the butter, sugar, egg, and extracts. This process will be easier if you happen to have a stand mixer. When the mix is creamy, slowly blend in the salt and flour. You’ll need a pastry bag to form each rose-shaped dollop, and the author suggests that warming the dough with your hands will make it easier to dispense. When all the rose spritz cookies are lined up on a tray, slide it into the oven to bake for five to eight minutes or until they’re starting to turn golden.
